The Maastricht Antiquarian Book & Print Fair (MABP) will take place for the tenth time this year. MABP also organises an annual parallel cultural programme on a topic related to a particular book or print. This year, the programme will focus on the Maastricht Treaty, which was concluded 25 years ago. On Sunday 5 March, Professor Mathieu Segers will give a public lecture at Centre Céramique asking whether the European Union can be labelled ’25 years young’ in a time of growing populism. A debate will follow the lecture.
Mathieu Segers (born 1976) is Dean of University College Maastricht and Professor of Contemporary European History at Maastricht University. He has published numerous books, monographs and articles on Europe. His book on the Netherlands and European integration (Reis naar het Continent. Nederland en de Europese integratie, 1950 tot heden) won the Dutch prize for best political book in 2013. He is also a columnist for the Dutch daily Het Financieele Dagblad and weekly De Groene Amsterdammer. Mathieu Segers was one of the speakers at the ‘EU & ME Summit’, which took place on 9 December 2016 at the MECC in Maastricht.
