On 5 February, the doors of the Provincial Government Buildings were open to the public as part of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Maastricht Treaty.
The guided tour included various locations in the Provincial Government Buildings that played a role in the creation of the Maastricht Treaty, such as the Banqueting Hall where the various heads of government held the negotiations on 9 and 10 December 1991, and the Council Chamber where the Treaty was signed on 7 February 1992. Furthermore, exceptional items and documents were on display.
Visitors were informed of interesting facts relating to the conclusion of the Treaty, the basis for the current European Union. The tour was rounded-off with a visit to the cartoon exhibition ‘Scherts‘, which is also in the Provincial Government Buildings. This is an exhibition of political cartoons drawn in the 25 years between the signing of the Treaty and now. The visit concluded with coffee and Limburg tart for all visitors and of course the photoshoot!
